Health-Care Reform -- An Idea Whose Time Has Come!

Health-Care Reform is an Idea Whose time has Come...., and we must not allow Republican hacks to Obstruct and "Swift-Boat" this most needed reform, because Health care costs have spiraled out of control and are one of the basic culprits Directly related to our collapsing economic condition. We are drowning in this growing quicksand, which calls for an urgent and immediate address and attention. This is its time -- this is its moment.

GOP sponsored Media and politicians love to talk about Pres. Obama's apparent sinking poll numbers, but when one is on the Battlefield for positive change, one cannot pause to worry and fret about "allegedly" sinking poll numbers.... that is a "Trojan horse", For One cannot worry about the Separated Self, when they have the People's business to do!

It is hard to Change old habits of greed and selfish power to one of cooperation and a public good for all.  Pres. Obama is going up against a Monster of Greed and Corruption that does not want to give up its power and control. This monster will Lie, Steal and Deceive.  Now they are trying to say Pres. Obama is not an American citizen.  We the people must not allow this Monster of Corruption to continue to have its way, which will only continue to bankrupt the United States. We must stand firm with Pres. Obama who truly represents the Change the people need and have voted for.  He has the Vision and Will and sees the possibilities, while the Party of No Has no vision and only sees darkness and gloom.

GOP Media and politicians, say Pres. Obama is doing too much at one time, but if we in our own lives can do more than One thing at a time, so can Congress, and it is their duty and business to do so. If those in Congress want to continue to be a Do Nothing Congress, than we must elect leaders who can do Something for the whole of humanity and not just the separated self or special interest party.

Members of Congress have great insurance coverage, and a cushy salary. They do not live under the fear of unemployment and no insurance coverage.  Congress was voted in to work on Behalf of the People, so they too, do not have to live in that fear...  Yet, while in the care and leadership of the GOP, Congress has done a miserable job on taking care of the people and now the GOP want to obstruct the Democrats from putting into laws that which will benefit the people and grow the economy, not bankrupt it.  But people are turning a deaf ear to the deceitful "Wizards of Oz" for they want us to continue to travel their yellow brick road of deception, while Pretending to be Helpful and Concerned!   We must become immune to their lies and vigilant to their deception if we are to make progress towards prosperity and wholeness again.

I call on those of goodwill to work, speak-up and Stand firm for Change and for transformation -- towards a more just and equitable government for all.

GOP Operatives Criticize Obama for Showing Goodwill and New Era of Cooperation at Summit !

GOP operatives (Party of No and Darkness), are now criticizing Pres. Obama because he showed strength of character and decency by not engaging in a school yard brawl with leaders who are supposed to be engaging in Dipolomacy! This is leading by example rather than getting petty and in the gutter with leaders who were allegedly disrespectful to the U.S.   Pres. Obama is indeed ushering in a New Era of Responsibillity and Cooperation, Further, leaders who engaged in uncivil behavior are the ones who looked weak and ignorant, not Pres. Obama. It is amazing to the GOP that Pres. Obama was able to stay "presidential" and smile through the tyrad of evil and to continue to engage in goodwill. Rather GOP thinks to stay calm and positive is to be weak, and that to be strong one must get angry and blown out of proportion like a leaf in the wind when one is provoked. I say rather that it shows strength to maintain one's position of calmness to stay fixed in one's position to be a peacemaker and to show others and the world that the U.S. President does not get down in the gutter when others are throwing barbs at him and it shows Discipline. GOP claim "he allowed himself to be Disrespected"! How could one allow themselves to be disrespected, however, Pres. Obama could himself have become disrespectful to others and made the U.S. look bad if he had engaged in tit for tat, but that is the old way, and Change has come to the U.S. We know longer have a Cowboy in the whitehouse, but a peacemaker and diplomat who shows us that we do not have to get angry when others get angry with us. We don't have to get that way!

Yesterday, while watching Pastor Charles Stanley who preached on staying silent in the face of evil, and that we had to show the strength of character that Jesus Christ did when confronted with enemies and confrontation -- that is to be silent and not engage in the confrontation but to stay responsible with the response given in the face of such challenges!

That is what Pres. Obama did -- who continued to radiate the energy of goodwill and kept his cool in the face of childishness adversity and really showed leadership qualities and also emulated Christ's teachings....., the teachings the GOP frequently profess they live by. Really?   May be they should ask themselves what would Christ do if confronted with the same situation....

Obama's Laugh.. Fat Cats' Days of Unchecked Greed are Over!

What most people are not discerning is, is that Pres. Obama is somehow aiding us in facing this "shadow" or darkness of greed in our society.  He is not trying to Hide it or Cover it up!  Ironically, he is being blamed for not trying to Fix it in a hurry,  so it will not be Exposed.....  But to truly fix it, we must face it, identify it and generate enough public consensus so that it can be changed.  That is how change is made.  That is why I see Pres. Obama as really a true change agent.  True and lasting change can only come from the people, demanding change.    That is why Obama can laugh, he knows that the fat cats' days of unchecked greed and speculation are numbered!

Now GOP's new buzz word is "unsustainable", however, what was really "unsustainable" as the recent events so adequately portray is that George Bush's Iraq War, tax cuts to the wealthy, jobs going over seas, tax breaks to companies that shipped jobs over seas, deregulation of banks and insurance companies, and more (which I will leave to the experts to flush out), is the really true Unsustainable and break down and collapse of our economic system, fabric of society (bridges, roads, jobs, education), you name it, he failed in all aspects of this society.   There are "tent" cities popping up all over United States because families can no longer sustain to live in a house because they no longer have a job!

This new buzz word "unsustainable" is a hoax, disingenous and hypocritical.  Remember, they want Pres. Obama to Fail!

And lastly, let's be Clear, George W. Bush's first year in office was spent more at the Ranch then in Washington.  Where was the Party of No's outrage then?  May be if George had spent more time in D.C. working, they would have been more alert about the signs leading to 9/11, just a thought.....

GOP Unpatriotic in Accusing Pres. Obama of Being Unclear and Confused!

It is very Unpatriotic that every morning Morning Joe opens up with how Team Obama is so Confused and so muddled, when in fact he has been very clear about getting America back on track in the many avenues which have been neglected for all of these years. This assumption is false when in fact Team Obama has been clear that they are doing Stress Tests on the banks to figure out how to proceed.  Why that cannot be allowed to take place by some in the media, well we know the answer to that, Politics.  And, actually is Unpatriotic to the American people to continue to falsely accuse Team Obama for actions that are not real and to pretend things are so confused when they have never been so clear.  Daily they come out with their plans for the American people, plans which have long been ignored.  And, please media, stop saying Main Street is confused, we are not.  They are instituting policies for us now. When GOP brings up the era of "easy money" is over, we could ask, easy money for whom and to whom?  Not us, not Main Street...

As of yesterday, robocalls are going out to ask people to sign up to restructure thier mortgages (that is not confusion but action on behalf of the American people.)  It is too bad that when Republicans had their chance they did nothing for the people but use the word No, No, No, so it is no wonder they think Team Obama are doing to many things at once, being the party of no action that they were.

Let this Team have their chance to bring in real change.  The American people are not confused!  Please stop being so falsely and deceptively unpatriotic, because we know as Rush stated so blatantly, they want Pres. Obama to fail, which means the American people also fail.

********
With the economy in freefall, Americans have a chance to reshape society for a more equitable distribution of wealth....

Charles Dow is Rolling Around in His Grave....

Charles Dow Rolls in His Grave: The Distortion of the Average He Made Famous - Friday, March 6, 2009

Have you ever asked yourself why the Dow Jones Industrial Average contains non-industrial stocks? Why such a large weighting is given to financial companies such as American Express, Bank of America, Citigroup, JP Morgan and AIG (Before its removal)? After all, you wouldn't expect to see General Motors included in a healthcare index or Goldman Sachs in the home builders index.

The Wikipedia entry for the Dow Jones Industrial Average states that:

"The average is computed from the stock prices of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the United States. The "industrial" portion of the name is largely historical--many of the 30 modern components have little to do with traditional heavy industry."

We do not dispute the claim that the "industrial" portion is largely historical. Indeed, there are components which have little to do with industry. Financial companies, who do not produce anything, comprise a large weighting the in this average of American Industry.

Over the last 20 years, the Dow Jones has been reshaped into a basket of 30 conglomerate corporations, with little regard for the actual business they're in. Today's Dow Jones would be unrecognizable to the man who created it over a century ago.

History
The index was first published in 1896 by Charles Dow, Founder of the Dow Jones Company and Wall Street Journal. Mr. Dow created and monitored a  list of important industrial companies.  Along with the Industrial Average, he  created the  Railroad Index (Transportation) which he would track along with the industrial stocks to gauge the health of the economy.

The Dow Theory was created based on the notion that both indexes should rise together in a healthy economy. The concept was a simple one. While industrial companies made the goods, the rails transported those goods to market. One couldn't function without the other.

The original Industrial Average contained 12 industrial (Producers of goods) stocks:

- American Cotton Oil Company

  • American Sugar Company
  • American Tobacco Company
  •  Chicago Gas Company
  • Distilling & Cattle Feeding Company
  • General Electric
  • Laclede Gas Light Company
  • National Lead Company
  • North American Company, (Edison) electric company
  • Tennessee Coal,
  • U.S. Leather Company
  • United States Rubber Company

Notice that all of the companies in the index were producers of goods. There were no financial or bank stocks included in the average.  At the time of his death in 1902, Charles Dow's industrial average contained 12 stocks which were comprised of industrial producing companies such as US Steel, US Rubber, National Lead, American Car and Foundry, etc. Still no banks.

The Dow Jones Begins to Change (Era of Reganomics)

1982
80 years after the death of Charles Dow, American Express was added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. This marked the first time that a financial stock was added to the century old index.

1988
American can, a manufacturer of tin cans merged with Commercial credit corporation and adopted the name Primerica.

1991
JP Morgan was introduced to the Dow Jones in 1991 and replaced Primerica corporation.

1997
Travelers Group was added to the index. The company would later change its name to Citigroup.

2004
AIG was added.

2008
Bank of America was added.

Reasons:
We struggle to find an explanation as to why such changes were made. Was it because America became de-industrialized over the last quarter century? Was it merely a reflection of big business today? With companies such as General Motors and General Electric playing dominant roles in non-core businesses such as finance and banking? Or were these financial stocks added to the index in hopes of propping up its value with companies such as JP Morgan and AIG, whose earning power seemed indestructible? Our hunch is that it was a combination of  each.  (More at the link.)

U.S. In Deep Doodoo, Written in 1998!

The United States Is In Deep Doodoo!

The following article was first written in 1998.

---------------------------------------- -------------

Imagine for a moment that someone inherits a farm. Let's say that the farm has good topsoil, a good well, good breeding stock, good seed, and excellent farm equipment in good repair. Prior to passing into the control of the present owner the farm did a good business selling vegetables, meat, and dairy products to the local market, and it made a small profit. But let us suppose for a moment that the present owner of the farm doesn't understand farming, or isn't even really interested in learning. The present owner has no objection to standing around looking good, so he stays at the farm, standing in front of it, looking good to passers by. Of course, the bills still come in, so our farmer puts them on his credit card. When that bill comes due he uses another credit card, Then another. Pretty soon the interest payments alone are higher than his bills and the banks get nervous and call him. No problem. Our farmer sells the tractor, takes the money around to the various credit cards, the food store, the utilities, and pays off all his bills. Then he stands around in front of the farm looking good to passers-by, the lord of his domain.

Well, the bills still come in. Again the credit cards get loaded up. So, this time our farmer sells the harvester. Then later on, the cattle, then the chickens, then the seeds, then he leases the well to his neighbor and finally sells the top soil from his farm to another farm down the road whose soil is getting tired. The cash is taken around to the various creditors, the food store, the utilities, etc.

Now at this point, our farmer thinks everything is okay. The bills are paid, he has a little cash in his pocket, and everything is fine.

Of course, you know better. The farm simply does not exist any more; it's just an empty lot with a few buildings, and soon they will be gone as well. The path from the farmer's present condition to seizure of the property for unpaid taxes is a foregone conclusion, even if the farmer doesn't look far enough ahead to see it.

Poor, dumb, stupid farmer.

That farmer is our government, and our business leaders.

Political Armageddon, A Battle of a Lifetime!

Political Armageddon: Ending Special Interest Influence in Washington DC

by Bernie Horn

There's no question that this is the battle of a lifetime.

The end of the world is near -- the Reagan world, that is. In one gigantic political battle, we can end the world of tax cuts for the rich, federal government-led attacks on organized labor, mindless deregulation, subsidies for wealthy corporations, war against science and preemptive war in Iraq.

The old political world will end on October 1, 2009 (the beginning of the next fiscal year) -- if we just win the battle to enact President Obama's budget.

Anyone who didn't see or hear Obama's Weekly Address on Saturday should go to the White House website and watch it. It is a declaration of war against the special interests:

I realize that passing this budget won't be easy. Because it represents real and dramatic change, it also represents a threat to the status quo in Washington.

Some In Media Deceptively Portray Pres. Obama as being Partisan!

Some in the media deceptively portray President Obama as being Partisan!  For example, this Presidents' Day morning, Joe Scarborough said on his show that if Presdent Obama does wants to be a partisan presidency, that that is his perogative!   That is an outright, deceptive lie and deceptive seed to plant into the minds of the American people in order to confuse and manipulate.  Joe Scarborouh knows very well that President Obama has reached out to the GOP and even in the face of adversary, still plans to reach out, this President Obama has said time and time again.  For Joe Scarborough and others in the media to use their position to plant lies and deceptions is a betrayl of the public trust.

It is true that President Obama states that he won the election, but his actions portray that he is was and is also willing to compromise with the GOP, enough so, to incorporate GOP ideas into the stimulus plan in an effort to work in a bipartisian fashion.  This compromise did not satisfy the GOP.  They want all or nothing, even in the face of a crisis!  It is the GOP who do not want to be bi-partisan and had rejected his plan even before they met with President Obama to discuss the plan.  The word from GOP leaders had gone out to REJECT!!!!!!

On November 2008, the people voted or change -- that they want to try the Democratic way -- President Obama's way, not the GOP way!  On this fact the GOP have a duty to compromise and work with the Democrats and the ideas that won the day. We have come to expect politicans to be partisan.  However, the medias' role is to be unbiased and fair (the third wheel of democracy), and any and all media who continue to distort President Obama's words and actions (or any indiviudals') in an attempt to put accross their agenda and who show they are unable to be unbiased and fair should not be on the public airwaves.
